February is the month we stop and appreciate the achievements of African Americans. 2026 marks 100 years of such celebrations. Carter G. Woodson started the event in 1926. What initially started as a week-long commemoration expanded to a full month of celebration and lament during the 70's. It's an occasion to highlight the many political, social, economic and professional achievements of African Americans while simultaneously lamenting the arduous and often times lethal sojourn of the ancestors.
